“I really enjoyed the course the course allowed me to reflect on child mental health, having worked with younger children I do feel like there was more of a focus on school age children, so would have liked some more research on the early years 0-4”

Hello Michaela, thank you for leaving us a review! I have spoken to the relevant team regarding this and they will look at including it for the next version of this course. They have also asked me to pass on some information to you regarding the signs of PTSD in children: The signs of PTSD in children can vary hugely. The impact of the trauma often depends on how the child experienced the event, and how it was handled by those around them. Trauma can also manifest differently in girls and boys. Boys’ reactions tend to be more immediate, yet girls’ reactions tend to be delayed. It’s likely that education staff will have been made aware of events in a child’s life which were traumatic, and therefore the school can vary its provision accordingly. However, this is not always the case. Children who have PTSD may display any of the following symptoms: - Difficulties sleeping. - Eating difficulties. - Increased anger and frustration. - Difficulty paying attention. - Becoming withdrawn. - Feeling hopeless. - Concerned about their safety. - A hyper-focus on mortality or death. - Refusing to attend school, or low attendance.
