“There is way too much emphasis on legislation which has absolutely no impact on me as a teacher. What was helpful was ways to spot abuse and types of abuse and exactly what I need to do to make sure a child is safe. Knowing what legistlation is relevant to each case is completely unhelpful and actually I found it patronising. I care about making sure my students are safe in class and at home, and I felt like this course was way too focussed on sounding clever instead of giving me to tools to protect my students. I could have done with some examples of situations and how those teachers actively recorded that information and been shown the process. Seen what situations might arise from reporting a case so I can be prepared mentally when the time comes that I need to raise a concern. Instead you seemed focussed on making me try to remember the names of different acts. This felt like box ticking rather than arming me with practical training that could save lives.”
