“My preference to learning likely would involve something more routined and/or tutor led, but I respect the quick and concise nature of the presentation for this kind of training. An ability to retain the knowledge shared understandably requires frequent revising or relearning materials, but I wonder if there could be a more engaging facility to better direct students onto key points, besides the quick exercise found half way through a module. On the other hand, I quickly identified with the case studies and appreciated how they were contained mostly at the start of the course. Even if it is a distressing subject to study, it was necessary to follow the reading pace as it was recited, but it didn't feel too much, and especially important there was no prolonged suggestion of the overall scale of abuse. There was nothing that I thought to rush through, but remember the description of certain types of abuse markedly more than how children may have come to be neglected, or the instances where it may be missed and why exactly it was missed. The social care system may be a little convoluted, although only an impression. I assume the length of the modules reflect how assured and fully empathetic any one person is required to be ensuring adequate care for a child. I respect the comprehensive nature of the content and how it is chronologically significant to when an encounter usually occurs and due process. I would have made good use of more visual representations, teaching diagrams or similar as it may have better represented the different levels of care between the services. I feel I should remember how one action leads to another more once a safeguarding need has been identified. Likewise, I felt there were many topics where I would have preferred a more concrete understanding sooner. There were a few points that hadn't felt fully resolved. This only really occurred from the third module, but of course there is a lot of relevant information. I absolutely respect that we all have a responsibility to children besides the duty of care offered by professionals. There was a lot of reading to get lost in despite best efforts by HST no doubt, although I believe I have learnt the core principles regarding intervention, who to talk to, severity of need, appropriate action and what to expect getting to a resolution.”
