“I disagree with the scenario in the second module which indicates that a company offering to provide a representative with a hotel room is not a form of bribery. If that representative is involved in a negotiation then absolutely no payment, hospitality, etc should be offered or accepted as it may be prejudicial to the outcome for either or both parties. The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply highlight this as the following in the guidance to its Code of Ethics - 'ensure staff involved in sourcing and supplier selection decisions do not show favouritism or are unduly influenced by familiarity with suppliers'.”
