“The course contains useful and important information, but I found the repeated use of emotionally distressing case studies unnecessary and, at times, detrimental to the learning experience. I fully understand the potentially fatal consequences of allergen mismanagement; that is precisely why I am taking the course. I would have found it considerably more useful if greater emphasis had been placed on analysing what went wrong in these incidents: the specific failures in procedure, communication and compliance, and the practical controls that could have prevented them. Case studies are valuable when they demonstrate a failure and teach us how to prevent it from happening again. Repeatedly returning to the emotional consequences did not improve my understanding and instead distracted me from the technical information I was trying to learn. For a professional training course, I would prefer a stronger focus on failure → cause → control → prevention, rather than repeated emotional reinforcement of how serious food allergies can be.”
