“To the lovely Granma! Your recipe is delicious and has become a weekly favourite of mine. I change up nearly almost everything else in my box, but you always find a place in my order! Having tried this dish out lots, the way to get the best out of it as far as I know is to put it in the microwave with the lid on. It steams it and doesn't make the rice crispy like it does in the oven. I am a big fan of the oven, but I am finding with these rice based dishes that the microwave gives you the best result. The chicken is delicious sweetened with the coconut and is like no other rendang you can buy as a ready meal! Big fan of this one if you couldn't tell!!!!”
“I thought I would give this dish another try, but was still not very impressed with it. The dish mostly comprises a lot of rice and very little shredded beef. The chili & sayce need to be in separate containers altogether. As I can't eat chilli, I removed it as best I could, but it still got mixed in with the rest of it, which spoiled my enjoyment of the meal.
I am very familiar indeed with beef rendang from Malaysian restaurants, and I love it. Maybe it's different in Indonesian restaurants, but having shredded beef, instead of beef chunks, & having so little of it as well doesn't seem very authentic, in my experience.”
