“Chelated magnesium supplements, like this, where magnesium is bound to an amino acid or two, are much more bioavailable than inorganic magnesium supplements. Inorganic magnesium supplements, like magnesium oxide, have such poor bioavailability, in fact, that they're often used as laxatives - they go straight through most people, to the extent that they're effective stool softeners, and the upshot is that, with supplements like magnesium oxide, little-to-no magnesium is actually absorbed by the body. This supplement, on the other hand, provides magnesium bound to two glycine residues (that's what individual amino acid units are called), which makes it orders of magnitude more effective (because the glycine is actively transported across the intestinal barrier, and the magnesium is transported with it). The USRDA of magnesium is 400mg/day, for an adult, though many paleo-minded researchers and practitioners point out that our paleolithic ancestors probably consumed twice that much on average. This product is a great way to easily get enough highly bioavailable magnesium for optimal health without breaking the bank.”
