“At first I was totally repulsed by the idea of drinking your meal. I was first introduced to the idea via the well known American competitor, and a friend got some and I thought it was disgusting and ludicrous. Nearly a year later a different friend hopped on the Jimmy Joy/Plenny shake train. I also thought he was crazy, but he offered to let me try some. First one I had was chocolate. I was shocked at how drinkable it was and the fact that, being a bigger person that uses more than 2000 calories a day, even if sedentary, I am able to have a Jimmy Joy/Plenny shake in the morning and not need to eat another meal for at least 3 hours. Any other smoothies I would make for myself would last an hour, if I'm lucky. This has really helped get me out the door, starting my day, and keeping me nourished until lunch. Buying more now...”
“I think the food is healthy, but has a high glycemic index; It tends to put me to sleep if I have a 600kcal meal. I like the chocolate. The vanilla and strawberry are too sweet. I haven't yet tried the mango and banana.”
“When I had a look at the ingredients, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of protein in the shake - for those who are bulking, you might conclude that don't need to buy a protein shake in addition, which would obviously be a bonus.
I was disappointed at the vitamins and minerals though - to reach your recommended daily allowance, you would have to have three shakes a day. This is clearly an attempt to generate dependence on Jimmy Joy/Plenny shake. I would prefer it if just one shake (or at most two) provided the RDA.
One more quibble is that the particles in the shake tickle the back of my throat when I drink it. I find this quite unpleasant, but the shake is quite nice apart from this inconvenience.”
