“As a mom and a nurse with small children, I've tried too many thermometers to count. “What a neat device to better monitor the health of your family in an easy, accurate way! I used this thermometer both when I was healthy to test it and also when my son had a cold.
- The app downloaded quickly with no issue. It is compatible with iPhones and Androids. I use an iPhone. Downloading the app to receiving the result took roughly a minute. The result comes back in one second. It even comes with batteries. It can sync with apple health. It also can be used separate from a phone.
- The response time of the thermometer was the fastest I have experienced for an ear thermometer. I especially appreciated the speed of the thermometer because my son hates when I take his temperature.
- I compared the temp with two other ear thermometers and an oral and am confident it was accurate. I also took a series and it stayed consistent. A smiley face shows if it is concerning or not.
-The app is fantastic. You can choose different profiles so the thermometer will determine if the temp is normal for age. It also records what the temp is so you can monitor over time or provide it to a health care worker. You can also document symptoms, med doses with times, diagnoses, etc. It can set reminders to take a temperature. It even forecasts the risk of illness in your community, specifically mentioning covid and flu rates, based on millions of smart devices. It ranges from low to critical, providing a numeric figure. I'm a nurse so this is really cool to me. It can detect an abnormal bump in fevers, giving schools and communities a heads up about a spread in illness, capturing cases at home that maybe were not presenting in a medical clinic. Very cool! I've heard about these, but we already had a thermometer and I didn't believe they were as great as everyone says. I was wrong! It works so quickly once you press the button. And I'd say it's very accurate. I got the same reading in both ears on myself and my two kids. I was apprehensive that it would work on my 8 month old, but it's so speedy that I was able to get her temperature in both ears before she moved! The app is awesome. So easy to use and set up. You can make a profile for each family member! It's nice because I can send my thermometer with the kids when I'm at work and check on their temperatures if they're feeling unwell. Upon opening this ear thermometer I first noticed how great the quality of the product felt. I loved the feel of the large buttons and how simple and easy the directions were to follow. I downloaded the corresponding app that goes with the Kinsa thermometer and it is flawless. “I was given this ear thermometer to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The thermometer is quite stylish and clearly well constructed. There was a large print card in the box advising me to download the app, which I immediately did. The app and thermometer were both easy to get up and running.
The app has some great features and is very easy to use and pair to the thermometer. My daughter enjoyed picking a unicorn avatar. I love the feature that allows you to track temperature readings over the long term to establish a baseline. I also appreciate that the app will give you basic treatment guidelines if it detects a fever; a really handy backup for a worried parent at 4am.
I will say that you absolutely have to read the instruction manual from front to back. After initially only getting faulty readings, we followed the cleaning instructions and also followed the directions to pull the ear up and insert the thermometer quite snugly into the ear canal. This scared me at first, but when I tried it on myself, it felt perfectly comfortable and safe. We got readings that were fairly comparable to another in-ear thermometer we have been using for a few years, but the Kinsa was noticeably more consistent than the other brand and showed slightly lower temperatures overall.
My daughter had no problems with us taking her temperature with the Kinsa and was excited to see the results in the app. I also love that it doesn't have disposable covers like our other brand of in-ear thermometer. It's easy to clean with alcohol and a cotton ball or Q tip. Overall, once you figure out the intricacies of this very well designed, slightly technically advanced gadget, it's a fantastic product to have in your arsenal for flu season.”
