“I was excited for a litter that felt similar to clay, but would be less wasteful. However, I was only able to use this product for about 2 weeks before switching back to clay. I have 2 major complaints: the first, that this litter is quite dusty compared to your clay litter, which was surprising to me. The second (and much worse) complaint was the smell. I have never had a problem with cat pee smell using clay litter, but with this product, the ammonia smell go so bad by week two it was making our whole house smell. Disappointing as I would like to get away from using clay litter, but not with this product.”
“I changed from the large Silica to the Diatomite because of the reviews and I noticed with my 2 cats, I was having to change out the litter weekly. Although this is lasting about the same, cleaning out the box is much easier.”
“I tried switching from fine grain silica to diatomite because it says it is biodegradable and has much less dust, as soon as I opened the box a big dust cloud came out and every time I scoop the litter there is so much dust. The room my cats litter box is in is covered in the dust from this litter. My cat tracked around the silica beads but this diatomite is like little sharp pebbles and is much bigger than the fine grain so it hurts to step on! It also does a very poor job and masking the pee scent. My whole upstairs smells like cat urine now. I had really high hopes for this litter since it is biodegradable. But to say the least, I will not be purchasing this again, and will not recommend it to others. Back to the fine grain silica which I absolutely love!”
“This litter is so lightweight and easy to use. And I love that it is biodegradable. That said it does not last a full month for odor control unless you only have one cat. I still use it in my upstairs litter box which doesn’t get as much use by my two cats.”
