This is not a problem with this unit but is a problem with ALL hollow tines whether manual or powered. Ensure the soil is soft enough to penetrate but is not too soft that it 'squiggies' and blocks. A one metre piece of 10mm doweling can be poked into the tine to clear any blockage without bending down. Sometimes it is trial and error until you get the soil consistency right.TIP 2 Clear or Smash Cores: Don't leave the cores on the lawn. Either use the flat back of a landscapers rake to collect them or let them dry and go over them with a rotary mower to smash them. This distributes the soil as a top dressing but only works if your mower instructions allow it to be used without the box. Wear eye, face and leg protection.

The aerator is solidly constructed but needs quite a lot of work to make the tines sharp. I purchased a set of grinding tools for a Dremel and fixed them to my electric drill which worked. When using the hollow tine aerator it proved impossible in our clay soil to get the plugs of earth to rise out of the tines on their own so I bought a length of 15 mm wooden towel and used this to push out the plugs by hand. Very arduous but it works. I also backfilled the holes using sharp sand to aid drainage

The Tine Aerator is a disappointment. On the companys video it looks great because their demo lawn is already a loose tilth. In reality most lawns are like mine and very compacted through normal use. Consequently the tine barely penetrates the surface and quickly clogs up the tubes. I am constantly unclogging the tines with a screwdriver and regrettably I am losing the will to use the tool and feel it is not fit for purpose on lawns like mine.i regret buying the product.

I knew this would be hard work & only plan to use it on small areas. Very hard to get into the ground after all this dry weather. Will probably be a little easier when the rains come!

Again not had to use this product due to the weather conditions but it is exactly what I needed and looks as easy to use as Id hoped for.

Much better than a garden fork. I sharpened the tines first as advised and worked well. No signs of the lawn piddling.
