“As a grouse and woodcock hunter with a fairly wide ranging pointing dog I use both a bell and GPS collar. While the GPS collar is great when the dog is 150 yards out, I've found that it is not so accurate within about 30 yards. So I've also used an additional beeper collar in locate mode in thick cover to pinpoint the dog on point. I'm glad that Garmin came out with this device as I can eliminate the extra beeper collar. The included installation instructions for the device are very sparce, and you are largely on your own to learn how to do it. Garmen references a web page but I had to go to YouTube for detailed instructions. I was hoping that the beeper would be louder as the speaker is rather small. As the speaker is located on the underside of the dog's neck, this also reduces the volume. My 72 year old ears need all the volume they can get. So this device is helpful, but don't expect it to be as loud as a dedicated beeper collar.”

“Bought this strictly for the locate feature. Hunt Grouse in thick cover and often can't see My dog when my 550+ says that I am within 20 feet. This will allow me to pinpoint his location. I use the tone for recall and he is confused right now. He thinks I am calling him in when I try it now but I am pretty sure that he will adjust to it when he has a nose full of Grouse scent. Well built product.”
