The 209 pistols are inexpensive, as are the primers. Which provides a great benefit over the .32 caliber starter gun I have used for years. .32 blanks are almost impossible to find. There are two major issues that prohibit me from using my brand new 209 Primer gun. 1. The cylinder does not lock. I found other 209s that do lock, but their price is similar to .32 guns. I wish I had researched more before purchasing the pistol I bought. When holstering the 209, the cylinder easily rotates to an already fired blank. That is a major problem when starting track events. It has to be checked and rotated if necessary to unfired shells EVERY heat. 2. As an older man, my finger dexterity is not what it once was. The TINY 209 shells are very difficult to handle and load the gun. Once again that makes for serious issues when attempting to be timely and in a good rhythm for running events. I truly wish the gun and shells were better suited to use in track meets. But they simply aren’t. Which is why I, and many/most starters in Kansas are switching to the 9 mm pistols. Shells for that gun are just as cheap as the 209s. The .9 is a much better choice for starting track events. Ed Reece

Got this because I couldn't find .32 blanks for the starter pistol I've had for years. 209 primers are much more available and cheaper than standard blanks - about $15 for 100 vs $50 for 50. No-brainer if you want a starter pistol for training.

I primarily start track meets during the fall and spring high school and middle school seasons, and the 8 shot 209 primer did not last, i bought one and then another one, and even though it said it was a workhorse, and was relatively cheap compared to the Charter Arms model at $75, the firing mechanism broke down twice at the same point, im disappointed to say the least....
