“In Sept '17 I installed a 'Blagdon 14000' water filtration system into my 50000 litre fish pond first filled and stocked with about 50 Comet goldfish the year before. After introducing the fish - with no filter, but with an aerator, the water slowly turned an undesirable shade of green.
So, the Blagdon was installed, running 24/7 and over the next two years did a fair job of keeping the water reasonably clean - not 'clear', but clean. During summers the soft foam filters were removed and hosed clean every 5 - 7 days. Over winter it was every 14-21 days.
Around Oct '19 the foam filters were falling apart and needed replacing, but none were available. Looking for alternative filter media I discovered Matala sold by Love My Pond. I bought a half sheet each of blue (fine) and green (medium),easily cut them to the required sizes and put them in place.
By Xmas the pond water was noticeably clearer and by January looked clean enough to drink! I am very pleased with Matala filter media.”
