“The power adapter from Apple includes two parts: a cable from the wall socket with a female end that connects to the power supply/DC converter, and the power supply/DC converter that connects to the computer.

“On the original design, the power cord went into a cuboid block that housed the magnetic connector. The cord was at right angles to the block, and over time it got weakened and began to fray at the point where it entered the block, even with normal use. I had two like this and both finally stopped working.
On this model, the cord and the connector are much better integrated: the connector is in a cylindrical housing enclosing the end of the cord, or you might say it's like a reinforced extension of the cord. It fits snugly along the side of the Macbook and there's much less scope for wear and tear. It powers the computer in exactly the same way, but the connection is a superior design.
It's also worth noting that Macfixit's price is $20 less than Apple's (July 2014).”
