“Others on here have taken the short cut to replacing the battery, by using fishing line of dental floss - I chose the latter and it worked for me, instead of removing all the individual components - you just have to be careful and patient. With an abundance of patience I had the battery replaced and the back on within 1.5 hours.
The battery is holding its charge well. You might want to consider draining it and recharging it several times to ensure maximum performance - I did this based on the advice from another forum where an IT expert who handled equipment said he would always do this when replacing batteries and said it was essential to get maximum charge and life (in fact he said 5 minimum to 10 preferably).”

“I have no idea why you have to pull the whole machine apart - started doing that and realised I had a strong chance of breaking something. Was able to remove battery using dental floss and supplied adhesive remover and sliding cards. Working Mac and battery.”

“Ditched the more detailed instructions that involve pulling the whole machine apart and went with the fishing line under the battery trick and had the battery swapped over in about 15mins. Just slide fishing line under each section of the battery to delaminate from the adhesive then remove and swap. Wear gloves as fishing line cuts deep. Doing this way is a lot better than prying as you don’t risk bending the battery and we know what happens with batteries when you bend them. Haven’t had a single problem with it. A+”

“Bought a battery for my MBP 10,1 (mid2012). I followed the very detailed video and did it myself. It took a while but It didn't go as planned. The battery didn't seem to charge and the computer did not turn on.
I reached out to NewerTech and they were fantastic, offering info and a free shipping return thinking it could have been a bad battery.
Although I didn't know it at the time, I worked out I had damaged the trackpad cable while removing the old battery and glue - USER ERROR! Luckily I had access to another old machine that I could scavenge the cable from (and trackpad - it seems they might be a matched pair as my old trackpad didn't work with the 'new cable'). After many pull apart and rebuilds, the MBP fired up and charged. I wiped the SSD, installed Catalina and it is as good as new. Fast, powerful with a long battery life.
Definitely worth it as it is still a relevant machine”
