“I live in rural Nebraska and the nearest Greek restaurant is about 100 miles away. This kit was a super substitute. I made my own Tzatziki sauce, but eventually discovered that Costco's was better. I also made a Mediterranean salad of cherry tomatoes, dill, garlic, onions, cucumber, lemon juice and sliced kalamata olives that was the perfect addition.”
“I bought these when I caught a great sale and I am back to buy several more to put in the freezer. The meat is tender and flavorful and the pitas are pillow-y soft. One kit fed my family of five (including two teenagers who eat me out of house and home) with leftovers to spare!
Tips:
1. Thaw both the meat and the bread for best results. The day you intend to make it, just pop it out of the freezer and into the refrigerator that morning.
2. I baked our bread in 2 batches. Six of them fit onto a sheet pan, so I bake 6 and then 4. Bake the thawed rounds for 5 minutes at 350. If they're not quite done, put them back in - checking every minute or so. When they are hot but still very soft, remove them and cover with a clean kitchen towel. This will trap some of the steam and keep them nice and pliable. They only start to crack if they're baked for too long or as they cool and dry out at the dinner table.”
“My memories of gyros are from eating at the Greek Islands restaurant in Chicago on Halsted and I'm starved for it down here in St Augustine, FL. My hopes were too high. Your packaging was fine but there was none of the taste I was hoping for. I was surprised there was no seasoning package included.”
“The gyros were delicious. Even the pita bread is special. The serving is generous and lasted for three meals. The vegetable tart was a great accompanient.”
“This is a very good item. Although frozen, it tastes almost as good as the meat that you get from a restaurant. The only thing I didn't like about this item is that the pita bread never quite defrosted well enough to fold without breaking. I use tortillas of various sizes depending on how much meat I want to use. The pita bread does, however, make for a great mini pizza!”
