The first isuue was seeing how badly buggered the action screws were and being gratified that the last "gunsmith" who handled the rifle did not have them torqued to 40- to 60- inch-pounds, and I was just able to get them moving with a simple allen wrench. I separated the stock from the barrel and receiver, of which the bolt was welll-worn from use. Inside the stock, I saw "SDSO" and the last 4-digits of the serial number and a 4-inch interior crack that almost extended to the surface. I knew that, underneath the multiple layers of chipped paint the was a Mcmillan XIT stock. I was amazed and gratified to find the molded-in desert camo pattern. I fixed the crack by cutting a deep groove with my mini-milling machine and filling it with epoxy. I replaced the makeshift buttplate with an aftermarket rubber pad. Somewhat dubiously, I took the rifle to the range and was immensely gratified to find that it shot minute-of-angle. Now, I will clean the exterior of the barrel and paint it a matching tan.
