“I can’t believe I waited so long. I read reviews and looked at different companies for over a year before finally committing. Now, all those reviews who say you’ll forget your on your period, they’re all liars. You still know. But this underwear makes it so much less awful. They’re clean, they’re dry, and they’re easy to wash. I will never wear or use anything else again.”
“So this year, I was really interested in getting into more sustainable period products and....yo girl ain't a tampon lady. I just can't do 'em. So I figured, period underwear. It's the way to go.
So I started doing research, and I dragged my feet for MONTHS and I finally worked up the requisite time and energy to buy three new pairs of period underwear...from Thinx. Look, I was naive. I didn't do enough research. I heard some good things, I saw some ads on Facebook, and I took the plunge. And they were...fine. They were...okay. They didn't fit great, they rode up (even though I KNOW I got the right size), they felt very plastic-y (they'd arrived packaged in plastic, too). I was like: okay. This is the reality of being a Person With A Period. This is just what it's like for us Period-Havers. Some small measure of suffering is part of the deal. As Miguel de Unamono said, "Suffering is the substance of life and the root of personality."
So I dealt with Thinx.
But then...one day. One day, I went to gather my laundry from where I'd scattered it across my room like the young, disorganized working lady that I am. And when I picked up these Thinx period undies, these plastic-y, head-for-the-hills-of-my-buttcheeks b*stards, which I had thoroughly rinsed out after use I found them SPECKLED WITH MOLD.
Reader, I was done. Period undies? Cancelled. Sustainability? A pipe dream. My suffering? For NAUGHT. I closed the book on this chapter of my life, I swore to put the past behind me and the Thinx in the trash. I moved bitterly on with my life, returning to the world of single-use pads.
And then, one day, ModiBodi came into my life.
I didn't mean for it to. I was done with period underwear. I wasn't about to do any more research, open my heart to any more possibilities only to be soundly rejected again. But my lovely partner had had other ideas; he did the research, and he took the plunge. When he handed me the ModiBodi package--compostable packaging, it proudly proclaimed on the side--he said, "If you don't like them, don't worry about it. I just figured you might like to give them a try."
So I did.
You know when you buy a new article of clothing, and you put it on for the first time, and you feel like...you feel like you're about to go on adventure, or meet the love of your life, or have a really, really good day? That's what wearing ModiBodi underwear feels like.
I was shook. I had no idea period underwear could be this soft, could fit this well, could feel like I wasn't wearing period underwear at all. I immediately bought five more pairs. I am literally looking forward to my next period so that I can try them all. Do you know what kind of power a period product has to have to make someone WANT their period to arrive? ModiBodi has that power.
If you have doubts, let go of them. If you're looking for a sign to get 'em, this is it. If you're wondering if I'm the sort of person who leaves extravagant reviews on products normally, I don't. ModiBodi is the perfect period underwear. What are you waiting for?”
“These panties are so soft and they don’t feel “clunky” or “full” like it feels when wearing a large pad, but you still get a high level of absorbency!”
“During periods, I tend to go for the larger, higher waisted underwear to feel more protected from leaks. I was curious to try a bikini version and I have to say I am loving these! I reach for these every period now (even on heavy days) and I also love the classic full brief (both are extremely comfy). In terms of sizing, I'm usually a size 8 for pants, 6 for dress and wear a small in normal underwear and the small Modibodi fits me perfectly.
I actually prefer wearing the super heavy absorbency pairs in the day time as there are more hours throughout the day when I have to be up and about. Normally I'd wear a moderate-heavy absorbency pair before I go to bed, change into a heavy-overnight pair in the morning and if it's a really heavy day, change into another heavy-overnight pair in the afternoon and then repeat. I'm one of those people who don't mind hand washing then hang drying so I do need a few pairs to get through a week. Like other reviewers, I wish they dried faster between washes so I can wear them again but they are thick so what can you do :) I just purchased 2 pairs of the new Maxi Absorbency version & am excited to try! (Is it weird that I'm starting to look forward to period days?? >.>)
If you're new to period underwear, I would recommend buying more heavy absorbency versions than light versions. They are an awesome investment and are better for the environment (bye bye pads & tampons!). Compared to Thinx, these are softer, more comfortable and more absorbent in my opinion though I do like Thinx's Super Hi Waist. Either way, it's time to get on the period underwear train!”
