“I agreed to use this device to prove my innocence during a family law case. The results that I've received from BACtrack View have been disappointing. For their C6 devices they are great but not the BT-M5 device thats used with the View subscription.
I've used this app and device for about 4 months and since then I've had issues with video uploads and false positives. On Several occasions I've tested with the app and it's been slow to upload the results or other times it only uploads a picture instead of a video. This makes the app register a result but it won't send a text to anyone setup as an accountability partner. This caused a point of conflict with my children's mother even though the results showed 0.00. Three other occasions it's produced a false positive which I know is true because I could verify it with another BACtrack device but they only let the BT-M5 breathalyzer connect to the View app. This has cost me a lot of headache with my children's mother and hundreds of dollars in legal fees defending myself against the faulty device readings. Other times it works but because of the countless amounts of stress retesting and legal fees I can't recommend this product. Each time it's happened it's been in different locations and for no fault of my own.”
Josh – Thanks for taking the time to share this. We’re really sorry to hear what you’ve gone through. Using BACtrack View during something as sensitive as a family law case is a big deal, and it’s frustrating (and totally understandable) that issues with the device or app would feel like a major letdown.
It sounds like the BT-M5 didn’t deliver the consistency and peace of mind you needed, especially with video uploads and false positives. We know how critical every test result can be in these situations, and we’re genuinely sorry for the added stress and trouble this caused.
One thing we’ve seen make a big difference – is testing in areas with a strong, stable internet or mobile cell connection. When the connection drops mid-test, it can cause delayed uploads or send a photo instead of a video, which then messes with how alerts are triggered. That doesn’t excuse the experience you had—but we do want to be upfront about how important that piece is.

“I use this device on the weekends that I have my kids. From what I have noticed the battery life last longer than expected. Very accurate results. There has only been one issue where it popped a positive test but immediately took another test that showed negative. My only issue which isn’t a large issue is that it takes a while to sync the device to initiate a test. Other than that I love the discretion of the device. Small, compact, and comes with a case.”
“I believe it would be beneficial to have a running list of every day items including but not limited to (food, drinks, medicines, vitamins, cleaning products, ECT) that could potentially cause a positive test. That list could be updated as time goes on. Also I am not sure why location has to be on.”
