Due to liability and insurance, we cannot use the usual push-pins. Upon observation, it looks like children will still use the appropriate grasp, but we are adding the grasp into the presentation of pin-poking, as it is now needed with this tool. Would purchase again.

Just the right size for a preschooler or elementary school student. My child put it to work right away!

I have used this product over many years. I think it's a good tool to have so small children can gain small muscle control of the hand for future writing. I thought perhaps MS could offer one with a smooth finish as well, in order to allow a rubber pencil grip to slide on easier, if desired.

When I first received this mat I was concerned because its thickness was less than the length of the pin puncher I was using. But when I tried it out and saw how dense the mat was, I realized that its extremely dense fibers make it virtually impossible to push a long pin all the way. In sum, this mat was perfect! I have found it to be a great size, and my kids are already loving doing pin punching activities with it.

We use this type puncher in the 3-6 classroom. It is the perfect size for younger children and older ones who need to practice the proper pencil grip. We punch out all sorts of things- from all the puzzle maps, to fractions, flower puzzles- you name it- we punch it!
