This game is great to teach pairs adding up to a certain number. And without the game is a great math tool. But the mechanics of the game itself are not super fun. I had no desire to play it with the kids again. Whoever rolls a 9 always wins. You can play several rounds and have them add up their scores, but that somehow took the fun out of it for them. I think when they are a little older it will be too simple, and at the ages, they are now, it's just a little out of their reach. My kids range from 9-3 yr old.

We love this game! My 8 year old daughter plays it by herself when she's "bored" or for a few rounds when a friend is over. I use this consistently in my tutoring classes for ages 5 and up - even for high school students. The kids know they are doing math, but since there is a little competition (with two or more players) and some strategy it is so much more than that. Meanwhile, kids and adults are also learning math fluency - memorizing addition facts. I did a fun little review, with videos, here: http://theindigoteacher.com/shut-the-box-the-funnest-addition-fluency-game-youll-ever-play/
