“Great kit for helping students get started with electronics. With help it is a 1 day project and the having the radio work at the end is great motivation to move on. Well, documented with a straightforward overview of how it works.”
“This was purchased for my wife. It was her first electronics kit and her first time soldering. She assembled it completely on her own. She used my Hakko 888d soldering iron set at 700 degrees with a 1.8mm chisel tip. She opted not to use the included lead free solder and instead used 60/40 0.032 rosin core radio shack solder. I offered guidance at for the first 10 or so components, but after that she breezed through it at a steady pace and ended up with a quality radio.Word of advice, If your radio is having trouble locating or locking on to stations you should probably go ahead and utilize the C* capacitor included in the kit.And for those worried about burning off pads, consider a temperature controlled iron to prevent this, and while the Hakko 888d is cost prohibitive, you might want to consider the hakko FX- 600 it's a temperature controlled iron at about a 45 dollar price point and it works fantastically, at a very affordable price point.”
