“I have just finished the FM Radio Kit and I'm beginning to test it.The assembly and soldering went very smoothly; the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I took my time and tried to be as neat as possible. And I wanted to be certain that no mistakes were made since many of the disc capacitors were very similar in size and appearance. It would have been nice if two extra features were added... first a miniature jack to allow a larger speaker to be plugged in to improve the sound quality would have been a great idea. Secondly, it would be very helpful to have an LCD digital display to show the frequencies of incoming signals. As it is the radio was fun and educational to build. Now I am looking forward to my next kit, the Elenco AM Radio Kit.”
“My 11 1/2 year old and I built this in a few hours. It was his first time soldering. This is a great project to learn on, however the instructions do not explain anything about electronic theory or the operation of this circuit in particular. But for the price it was a few hours of fun and he likes using this one more that the FM Radio on his iPod - go figure! As a side note the main IC is already soldered to the board on the back side. There is a smaller Timer IC that sockets into the board (I think that this is for the scanning tuner circuit) This circuit board has the tuner (which is mostly contained in the pre-soldered IC, an amplifier circuit which is quite good for the size and a scanning circuit that locks on to strong signals with at yellow or blue button and a reset button (red)”
