Freewing Pandora 4-in-1 Blue 1400mm (55") Wingspan - PNP Reviews

4.5 Rating 127 Reviews
Assembly was surprisingly easy. Plenty of space to neatly route wiring, and the battery compartment provides space for the battery to be shifted forward and back to help with CG adjustment. Unfortunately, there seems to be some type of electronic breakdown with the ESC. On its maiden flight everything started out fine, then the motor shut down within a couple minutes. The plane glided nicely back to earth and even had a smooth dead stick landing. After approximately 2 minutes, the program audibly reset itself and the motor would run again. This issue continued on the ground or in the air. Even during the "no motor" time, all of the moveable flight surfaces continued to function normally. The club members and I checked the battery cells and tried several different batteries (fully charged, of course), and made sure all the electronic connections where secure. Ultimately, we figured the problem must be with the ESC. I don't know if there is a warranty on ESCs, but I'll look into it.

Great plane, use this as my trainer, and it lands and takes off very smoothly. Defiantly better than E-flight's trainers, because those have very unstable landing gear, a thin wire can not hold up a plane. Happy over all, with no problems yet. Assembly was a little confusing, and I was missing the propeller spacer, but assembly is still do-able. Although I do wonder when Freewing will release a model of the Concorde, as I just built the Lego one yesterday.

The instructions appear to be written by someone learning the English language. The plane came with some missing hardware, and no outline where the parts go. Not easy making adjustments since you have to remove the wing to get to the receiver and servos. I have not set it up with the wing under so I don’t know what challenges that may require.

The first Pamdora broke off its wings at the end of a loop. This time I made them stronger using a thicker carbon rod and glueing the wings to the mid-section. Now it's a really good all-purpose plane.

Absolutely wonderful plane, with 4 different configurations, solidly built and beautifully designed. Changing configurations can be done in minutes with a Phillips head screw driver. A great second plane that will grow with your skills! Very Pleased!

Success!!! And the life of my Pandora 1400mm LWTD (low-wing taildragger) begins. Great flights this morning at Leslie Park, Ann Arbor, MI. The first two were on 3S 2200mAh and I was able to get 5 - 6 minutes of flight time, the next two flights were on 4S 2200mAh and 7+ minutes was easy with time to spare. I installed an AR637T Rx & a 60amp Avian 3S-6S ESC. The Rx is set up with AS3x on and SAFE is disabled (this is the only plane in my hangar set-up without SAFE). I realized that I need to fly with more confidence in my flying skills. 1st) The Pandora took off easily from the packed ground at 55% throttle, rose evenly and well controlled at 60% throttle, as I increased throttle I noticed a wobble in the Ailerons, reduced throttle and landed easily in recently cut “ball field” grass. Reduced the GAIN on AS3x. Went through my rather long pre-flight check. 5min.2nd) The Pandora took off as nicely as before flew level at 50% and controlled through the rest of the flight with no chatter in the ailerons at any speed. All of my flights were in low rates (75%t - 25%e). I was particularly interested in the roll rate in this low-wing tail dragged configuration and was quite impressed with it, considering how stable this plane flies. 5min.3rd & 4th) Pandora took off as expected, quickly and smoothly, almost immediately you could feel the difference in power, really nice to know … JMO but this plane is meant to fly on 4S !!! And it flies with everything you could ask for and whole, whole lot more!Freewing has a real winner in the Pandora 4-1 1400mm in any configuration you prefer, but change out the ESC to 40amp or more that will handle 3S or 4SBack to the flights 3 & 4, I was even more impressed with this plane with every flight! 7min. 7.5min.Thank you for reading … comments are welcome … questions are welcome …
