Works well with decent feedback.. Super clinical for a 500 in my opinion, but I like that. Cleans that edge down super quickly and for my use with razors, I only need a few laps to clean down and set a bevel. It think using it in the progression is critical so you start as fresh as possible and then you can see how wel you are honing going up as the scratch patters wear away and you clean the edge down... Again for my style. I am far from a good sharpener, I can get my blades super sharp and clean looking, but I am not a pro and Have a long ways, so take my opinion with a grain of salt please.

As a knife maker, this stone is an absolute must for setting the initial edge. I use this stone after an atoma 140, and it removes the previous scratches. This stone wears slow and cuts fast, a great choice for the slightly heavier duty tasks. I purchased the regular and the extra thick version and I'd recommend the thicker version as it's twice as thick and comes with a holder.

I purchased my much beloved Shapton Glass 500 stone while I was in NYC almost two years ago now. I also purchased a 2k and 16 stone with the field holder. After approximately 800 knives the 500 grit stone is almost down to plate of glass. The quality of the stone is unquestionable, it still works today as good as it did on my first knife. It truly has been an exceptional water stone and If I was in NYC today I would purchase two more.

I use my Nenohi on this stone and it does a really good job of creating a new edge. My Nenohi works better on this than the stone I was using before. I didn't want to pay so much for the diamond lap plate so I use a stone fixer that I already had.
