Typically used with indented debossing type.By popular demand, as of July 2022, these are our new thicker (0.02") and heavier (0.2 oz) tags that more faithfully match original issue tags.Our Notched dogtags are replicas from WWII, Korean war and Vietnam war eras. Although commonly referred to as Tooth Notch its actual purpose was for alignment in field transcription equipment. Today, this notch serves only as a historical reminder or for aesthetics. We recommend that you choose the vintage deboss type lettering for this type of tag.Notched dog tags were standard issue until December 1964. The Department of Defense officially switched to dog tags without notches in early 1965. However, military bases with older notched-style tags in inventory still issued them for a while from 1965 up until 1966.The location of the notch changed depending on year of issue, branch, or even at the whim of the machine operator. We can offer this tag with the notched located in any corner using the Advanced Layout options.This dogtag does not come with a silencer by default since it would obscure the notch, however they can be added to a set. Optionally Embossed or Debossed with customized text, silencers and chains for additional fee.

“I love my dog-tags. I ordered them to replace a custom set I had once upon a time that got lost somewhere in a million moves. The only thing I wish was different about my new set is I wish it was a slightly heftier metal, maybe a solid back. Otherwise, excellent product, excellent service, and super-fast shipping.”

Hi Larry, Thanks for your feedback. You ordered our 1952 era debossed tags which indeed have the letters stamped closer together which was done this way back then in order to fit the entire name on the first line. Although this is the default for our Korea war era tags template, you can indeed change the font density on our website to suit your particular preferences. We offer 10, 11, and 12 CPI (characters per inch) density options)
