Chilblains, also known as perniosis, is a condition that results in inflamed, swollen, itchy, and/or painful patches on your skin after exposure to cold temperatures. It is often caused by your body’s unusual reaction to sudden warmth after being exposed to the cold - narrow blood vessels are forced to expand too quickly, leading to swelling.
Chilblains can affect the fingers, toes, nose, and ears. Treatment for chilblains is highly recommended if it is chronic, and/or disrupting daily activities.
