“I really like the design but I must confirm the issues that many have mentioned: too narrow. To start, I wear 8 1/2, D width in sneakers. I never have issues with shoe width. I do occasionally experience shoes that recommend sizing up, so I upsized to size 9. My larger foot is my right foot.
When the Makiki’s arrived, I found multiple issues:
1. I could barely get them on my feet but only without socks.
2. My left foot was extremely tight across the top of the foot, yet I had plenty of room for my toes. I could barely stand up. I reached out to Olukai for a return and asked the AI bot for help from a representative.
I exchanged emails with a representative to confirm the fit of the shoe was not appropriate especially as the Makiki is known as a narrow shoe. The recommendation was to go for the Ahi model. I have ordered the Ahi model and kept it as a size 9 to ensure I can wear socks.
Here’s a tip. I could only return/exchange because I had not worn them outside.
The Makiki shoes are very narrow. I don’t believe even a 9 1/2 would work. Believe the reviews that indicate these shoes are very narrow even sized up. I read all the reviews but I really had my heart set on the black Makiki. I can confirm these shoes are very narrow. Believe the reason for many more positive reviews for the Ahi.”
