“My old tailgate assembly was a genuine unit (Japanese made) that had a damaged rubber cover and eventually failed to unlock. The replacement unit originates in China under GM licensing (I believe) so is an exact replacement that is well made.
The reverse camera has better clarity than the original although I did feel the small mount for the original camera that slots into the chrome surround is better, and that can be swapped if desired with only three screws holding it in place. The rubber cover on the release sensor is also much sturdier than the original albeit small in size where the trigger point is for it to operate, and the two additional licence plate lights clip in perfectly and came with pre-installed globes.
I did have to modify the groove in the assembly where the three harness cables run under the release sensor so as it was larger enough to fit the cables (plate lights, reverse camera, and release harness) but that was easy with a rotary tool or file.
The release now works perfectly, was easy to fit, and is more robust than the original with greater clarity in the camera.”
