“There are 2 major ways of saving money on funeral expenses with a funeral home: buying the casket apart from the funeral home's package & ordering your own flowers from a florist for delivery to the funeral home. Where the difficulty comes is in the timing. The funeral home has a showroom and quick access to delivery. It takes a bit of effort, but the moment that you have a death in the family, order the casket online for a quicker delivery. If you anticipate a full burial, talk to relatives now about any preference in color, materials or style that they have. I ordered on a Saturday, put delivery didn't happen until Tuesday. Two caskets showed up instead of one, but that problem was ironed out by the funeral home. Some funeral homes demand that you be on site at delivery for inspection. I went with Overnight because other companies told me Friday was the earliest delivery and the funeral was on Friday. Timing is everything in this business...”
