I have enjoyed my Piquant Post subscription overall, but I will probably cancel, or at least change to the slightly more expensive plan that allows you to skip months. I quickly found myself overwhelmed by unused spice packets. This is partly because I had a couple dental procedures this year and couldn't eat certain foods/textures for a while. But I also found it frustrating that a very large percentage of the spice blends contained some form of spicy chili peppers. My husband does NOT like spicy food; we like to cook together, but obviously it's no fun for him if he can't eat it. All of the recipes I tried have been at least good; a few have been excellent. Overall, I feel that the recipes as written are underseasoned. I also find it a little frustrating to find ways to use some of the spices. I generally eat low carb, no sweeteners, and I'm gluten-free and dairy-free, and I don't eat pork, AND I need to limit saturated fat because of my genetically high cholesterol. I will have a small amount of carbs here and there, but I'm not going to make a fancy recipe that is noodle- or rice-based. A few of the recipes provided have been spot-on for me, but there have been several blends where NONE of them fit my needs and I just dumped the spices into some ground meat with some onion and garlic and hoped for the best. Plus, I spend so much time cooking with my PP spices that I don't have much time to use my many cookbooks. I would LOVE to have a subscription that gives me 4 spices every 2 months or even less frequently. I personally find the need to use a spice packet every week to be too much for me, especially if I'm the only one in the house who will eat it.
