InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
I purchased this garbage disposal to replace an old one that was leaking. It has performed very well, and was very easy to install. We've had no issues at all. It has more than enough power without being too loud. One thing to note when installing: If you are connecting the dishwasher drain hose to it, be sure to punch out the plastic inside that drain connection. The instructions tell you to do so, but I did not bother to read them, as a result, my dishwasher could not drain. There's a solid piece of plastic that blocks that connection and you need to punch out with a hammer and screwdriver.

This review would be a 5 star based only on the actual disposal performance as this brand is excellent, thats why I ordered it. The downside for me was I ordered with the power cord and got the disposal without a power cord so I had to wire the power cord from the old disposal to this one and I am no electrician or really even much of a handyman to begin with so I wasn’t excited about doing that. (They did refund a couple dollars for the difference between this disposal and the one without the power cord). I see where people say it doesn’t make noise but I cant share in that experience because it does make some noise, it’s not obnoxiously loud at all but you’re going to hear it turn on.Installation wasn’t that difficult and honestly if I didn’t have to wore the power cord it would have been much easier and faster. This is a DIY project almost anyone can do as long as you can get yourself under the sink.I will update this in a year or so if the performance becomes any sort of issue but as of now it works great.

This new Badger 5 (model 5-91A), was used to replace an old Badger 5 (model 5-84) that was manufactured over 11 years ago and had started leaking a bunch out of the bottom of the unit. The existing mounting plate from the old unit worked perfectly with the new one, and the old drain pipe lined up with the existing plumbing as well. This was my first time installing a garbage disposal and it was very easy due to the reuse of the mounting plate and existing plumbing. If either of those needed to be replaced or modified, it would certainly have been a bit more challenging.Compared to the old unit, the new one is noticeably quieter. Grinding some ice cubes to test it out went very quickly and much more quietly than the old unit would have managed.Overall, with the easy installation and quiet operation, this is a winner, especially for the relatively low price. Hopefully it lasts as long as the old one.

Have used this brand before. They seem to last for a few years. Not hard to change if no rust involved. It was a little confusing at first because of the way they changed the locking mechanism to spin around. but it goes right on actually easier than the old ones. got the one with the plug already installed on the disposal for a good price compared to the retailers, and had it in one day. thanks plumbingsupplyandmore.
