I am a 77 year old Disabled person and this Garbage Disposal was pretty easy for me to install all by myself. Here's a "BIG TIP" for you... Although this unit is quite heavy and difficult trying to hold it up under the sink with your hands while trying to install it, I used a "Car Jack" under the sink to jack the Disposal into precise position and hold it there, while I finished installing it. WOW !!! Doing it as I did, will save you over $150.00 in Commercial Installation costs. When doing a "re-install" (where you will be replacing the "Original" Disposal), there is no need to replace the metal ring and putty, attached at the upper/outer top edge in the middle of the sink. And... a new rubber part comes with the new Disposal, and the old rubber part remains with the old Disposal which is all thrown away as one piece. This Disposal installed quite easily with the "Quick Install" rotating top, which worked great after installation. It came with the electrical cord and plug already hooked up and properly in place. (Oh... Be sure to read the instructions about using a hammer and screwdriver to remove a "small plastic plug" inside one of the side openings in the unit.)Copy and print these helpful directions and have them with you, when you are ready to start your installation. I really love this Disposal and thus gave it a Full 5 Stars! I would recommend this unit to everyone.http://www.plumbingsupplyandmore..com/InSinkErator-Badger-Garbage-Disposal-Power/dp/B00PM8STLM/ref=cm_rdp_productAltair Walker - Everett, WA

The first disposal ordered through plumbingsupplyandmore. leaked from the bottom, which I could only discover after I had installed it. I bypassed plumbingsupplyandmore. and called Insinkerator customer support directly. They were very helpful. They sent me a new disposal and did not require that I return the defective unit. The new unit works great. Would have been better to have received a quality product the first time, but I commend Insinkerator for their customer support.

After the garbage disposal was installed the dishwasher flooded. A BIG NOTICE should be given to check for a plug before installation!

This is a disposal that most builders use in low to medium quality homes. When I was a remodeler I too used the same model. I have always found them to last a lengthy period of time past the stated warranty. I have used more powerful models but never found them to perform any better other than the operating noise which doesn't matter much because it is only intermittent operation. The Badger 5 noise is completely acceptable. The longest one has lasted was about ten years. Just a note when they do go out, I've had 2, two, leak profusely from the bottom of the unit. My advice would be to replace every 7 years or less, lest you want possible water damage on the cabinet bottom and possibly through to basement. I would still recommend this unit. I hear about fake reviews these days and I assure you this is not one.

I bought my home about 4 yrs ago and have used this insinkerator badger 5 since than. Unit may be older so if it went over 4 yrs, that's pretty damn good. Install was about 45 mins from begining to end and I did not have to install top components as they were in pretty good shape. The only difference I noticed is that my original model was 5-81 and I got a 5-87A, noticed after installing. Hope I got the upgraded version but turned it on and works great. Btw my old one had a leak from the bottom where the reset button is located.

One of these came with our new house, and we used it for about a year and a half. It generally works about as expected. However, it has a great deal of trouble with tough and fibrous vegetable scraps. The problem is it shreds them just enough to pass through the relatively large holes in the grind chamber, and the long fibers can (and do) cause clogs. I finally gave up on it and upgraded to one with higher power and higher RPM. You can do a lot better than this for around the same money.
