“I bought my home about 4 yrs ago and have used this insinkerator badger 5 since than. Unit may be older so if it went over 4 yrs, that's pretty damn good. Install was about 45 mins from begining to end and I did not have to install top components as they were in pretty good shape. The only difference I noticed is that my original model was 5-81 and I got a 5-87A, noticed after installing. Hope I got the upgraded version but turned it on and works great. Btw my old one had a leak from the bottom where the reset button is located.”
“I got this disposal after my first one's motor died. This was a very good disposal until suddenly out of nowhere the motor burned out. Only lasted 2 years and didnt have anything that shouldnt have been in there. Only issue I have is the motor lasting a little more than 2 years until you need another replacement.”
“Make sure that your disposal connection has an outlet if you buy this. Our connection did not have an outlet so we had to return this unit and purchase one of the same brand that could be connected by wire.”
“I like this product enough to have purchased a replacement of the same kind, but my last one died after about a year and we never could figure out what the problem was. No detectable blockage, reset button didn't help, motor made noise but nothing turned and then it smoked and we gave up. But it works well and is easy to install!”
“This is a budget disposal but seems to work OK, a little loud. The only problem is with the warranty. This was sold by plumbingsupplyandmore. so it came out of the plumbingsupplyandmore. warehouse and when I contacted the manufacturer InSinkErator they said it was out of the 3 year warranty period even though I had just purchased the item within the last month or 2. So beware that if you purchase this item from plumbingsupplyandmore. you will not know if the warrant is still in effect. Also during trouble shooting the disposal I was told that if troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, you may need to contact a repair shop, plumber, or an authorized InSinkErator servicer for further assistance. So even if the disposal was covered with a warranty I would need to contact a plumber and have them come out to check the unit (@$150 hour) and then if they found it defective I would need to procure the warranty replacement and then de-install and install the replacement unit myself or pay another $150 or more to have it installed. Quite a hassle. I would not purchase this from plumbingsupplyandmore. I would just go to my local big box store…just saying.”
“Pulled out my old disposal and was ready to install this new disposal. Checked over the parts to verify the fit, especially the discharge tube connection. When taking the discharge tube out of the plastic bag the kitchen light shone on it just right to reveal a crack in the tube almost the entire 3 inch length, vertical portion. Called InSinkErator and after some discussion finally got them to agree to overnight a replacement discharge tube, of course that depends on when it will be shipped?? Originally the customer service person stated it would take 7-10 days to get this part. Was ready to ship the entire unit back to plumbingsupplyandmore. for a replacement. No real damage to the packaging, but the Styrofoam that holds the base and top of the disposal was in a number of pieces- disposal must have crushed the side of the discharge tube- needs better packing!”
