InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
We were THRILLED to finally get a food disposal for our kitchen sink (we had one at the townhouse we rented prior to purchasing our home and loved it). The disposal was easy to install once we removed the old part from our sink, but a word to those who are not simply replacing an old disposal: make sure you have adequate piping! We had to purchase all new pipes for under our sink to accommodate the disposal. Seems like common sense, but we though we had enough to re-route them. We were wrong. If you don't already have a disposal, be ready to purchase some extra piping to fit the disposal under your sink. Still 100% worth it!

This is a disposal that most builders use in low to medium quality homes. When I was a remodeler I too used the same model. I have always found them to last a lengthy period of time past the stated warranty. I have used more powerful models but never found them to perform any better other than the operating noise which doesn't matter much because it is only intermittent operation. The Badger 5 noise is completely acceptable. The longest one has lasted was about ten years. Just a note when they do go out, I've had 2, two, leak profusely from the bottom of the unit. My advice would be to replace every 7 years or less, lest you want possible water damage on the cabinet bottom and possibly through to basement. I would still recommend this unit. I hear about fake reviews these days and I assure you this is not one.

A little disappointed because it was expecting it to be able to be plugged in or hard wired but it was really only set to he plugged in. My husband had to take the wiring out and then re hardwire the mount. Other than that we are happy with this. Quiet and small but good work horse :)

The majority of negative comments written before my review are accurate in my experience. This was my fourth unit replacement in the last twelve years or so. On average, the two prior to this most recent purchase lasted three years. HOWEVER, if you’re just swapping out units it’s a relatively easy 20-30 minute job. My point is, buy it at a good price if you can. Know it’s going to be relatively easy to swap out. But accept that in all likelihood it’s probably going to fail in 2-3 years. Personally, if I thought that spending more would render a different outcome, I’d spring for the extra money. However, few things are built to last any more. Sad turn of events. Buy quality American-made goods wherever you can find them. Know that you may pay a few dollars more. But it employs American workers, which strengthens our country and the money stay home folks. Win win in my book.

Fairly easy install. Itiss best to have a stirdy forked tool to remove the old disposal. Also, best to have someone or a small jack to hold up the new disposal. I didn't so I used a length of small rope tied through the drain and around the cabinet to raise the new disposal long enough to get it secured.

This is a great cheap option for a place where silence isn’t important. It eats anything and is reliable. For the price you won’t get a better garbage disposal. Only step up is to the quieter ones but the cost significantly more. Otherwise they’re all the same.

The noise level is low and it works well. However the hole for the drain pipe could be better done. The pipe they’ve included angles 90° down, the plumbing under my sink required it to run directly out. I tried to use the old pipe but it wasn’t compatible with the rubber gasket and it leaked. Used plumbers putty to seal it but it was still a problem.
