The pump leaked when I installed it from water pressure coming from the output, not the input side. I solved the problem by installing a check valve on the output side so now only when I use the pump water drips out of the unit until the small section of the PVC below my check valve drips back into the sump well and stops of course once its empty again. I could probably go further and pull the check valve that's located at the end of the screened input portion of the pump so water below the new check valve can drain back into the sump well. I've had another manufacturer's water powered pump that failed after 7 years so I chose this one. Hopefully it lasts longer than 7 years; after all its only a backup that rarely if ever will run. I also had to increase the bouyancy on the float by wire tying on pieces of styrofoam.

I installed the pump in June 2017. It is a backup pump, and so it only ran when I tested it. In January 2018, we had two weeks of subzero temperatures. My basement is unheated. Unfortunately, water inside of the pump turned to ice and snapped the intake "T" pipe inside of the pump. I am waiting for the manufacturer to get back to me to see if the pipe can be replaced. The major flaw with this pump is that there is no obvious way to flush or drain excess water from the pump. If you are installing this where it might freeze, then you may have a problem. I will update this review after I hear from the manufacturer.

This thing works great. Install took a little longer because I have radon and had to make sure I sealed up the sump area. I watched several YouTube videos on how to install, only one of the videos addressed radon. I didn’t take mine apart like the video showed, I just removed the float from the rod, mounted the unit to the sump cover and reinstalled the float on the rod.

I put off installing one of these for a long time and I shouldn’t have. These things should be code for all homes.Install was easy enough and the directions were clear. Jut and FYI you don’t need a check valve with this but I did anyways.Only conplaint I had was it made a weird sucking noise AFTER it or my main pump shut off. Turns out I needed an air relief in my discharge line. So I added an air admittance valve outside and the noise went away.(Sorry the photo has the cords in the way. Didn’t get around to cleaning it up when I took the photos.)

The pump itself is easy to install but you have to get the 3/4" water line there and run out a separate 1 1/2" drain pipe which are the more difficult parts. Since this hooks to your water system you should not drain it into sewer or storm drains as that would be code violation as it could lead to cross contamination of water supply. Also requires backflow preventer and water hammer preventer devices on water line. Works great I test it and it pumped out the water almost as fast as my electric submersible pump. Real quiet though so you probably want an alarm sensor that would fire if water level gets high enough to turn it on or you could end up with big water bill. Uses 1 gallon of water to pump out two gallons of sump water.

I removed the battery and backup DC pump and installed the Liberty SJ10 backup water jet pump. Works great!
