1-1/2" Air Scoop, Cast Iron Reviews

4.8 Rating 78 Reviews
Bought two of these Air Release Valves to replace the old ones on my oil burner heating system and hot water tank. Simple to screw right on once the old one was removed. Saved me a lot of money by doing it myself. Just an FYI, the 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" is the top vent width with the 1/8" being the most common for residential use.

The float vent is good quality and is very easy to install. It's been operating in my system for 2 seasons now without any issues.

Installed a 30 gallon hot water tank for use as a buffer tank on a high efficiency boiler. Installed an air vent on the top of the tank thinking that would take care of air in the system however, the zone pumps pulled enough volume that the air bubbles were pulled away from the vent and into the zones. (Note: system already had an air scoop with expansion tank and vent but, due to location, it was not effective in eliminating air in the new buffer tank and zones.) Added this air scoop to handle the tank and zones. Works well and should handle any air that developes. Originally purchased a 1" SharkBite Coupling to make assembling everything easier by reducing the amount of soldering required. Before assembly I descovered that SharkBite also makes a 1" Male Adapter. Purchased 2 of those and was able to eliminate soldering completely, a big help on a system that already has water in it. Total time to put Hi-Vent and adapters on the air scoop, drain the system down a couple of gallons, disconnect a union, measure and cut pipe in 2 places, reconnect the union, install and hang the scoop and screw in an expansion tank was probably 20 minutes. Refilled the system, started the pumps and no air problems since.

This is a service item, to be replaced every couple of years according to my HVAC guy, otherwise, it works great, Taco is the only brand I trust.
