Moen 1222, Posi-Temp Pressure Balanced Shower Cartridge, Brass Reviews

4.3 Rating 426 Reviews
One offering that is no longer sold went fine, the other leaked and was clearly incorrectly molded, cheaper rubber valve tabs that actually jammed in the valve opening taking a chunk out of it. The Moen original works flawlessly. Not worth wasting time on the cheap ones. (cheap on the left, Moen on the right)

it was a replacement of the MOEN shower cartridge, which was leaking. It came in as an OLD cartridge, when I open the package which was resealed, grease was applied to both sides of the seal and the cartridge was completely greasy.I replaced it anyway since I didn't have any choice after I pulled my old cartridge, Fortunately, it worked and stopped leaking.

Shower started leaking after 5 years. Then a few days later, stopped leaking. Meanwhile I had ordered this as it was cheaper than the big box store. So, if things change (again), I'm ready!I wonder if there was a grain of sand that lodged in it. Who knows. No filter so it's possible or, ... either way, it looks to be a simple procedure. Pretty hard to push back into pipe. Had to clean pipe of all debris and used a wrench to assist pushing it all the way in. Rubber pieces on the side need to be more secured. Came off while replacing old cartridge.

The cartridge was fine. Getting the old one out was a real dog even with a puller tool.Make sure to put silicone lubricant on the rubber components of the new cartridge like the o ring.I wouldn't buy from Idaho Trading Post again. Their description and photo did not match what I received.

New cartridge is easy to install once the old one is out and it did fix my leaky shower. The hardest part is removing the old cartridge if you don't have a removal tool. But you can make a handle from a piece of wood with a hole drilled through it. Attach the wood with the screw holding the knob to give you more leverage. Pulling with a firm force, it eventually broke free for me.
