Moen 1222, Posi-Temp Pressure Balanced Shower Cartridge, Brass Reviews

4.3 Rating 426 Reviews
cartridge installed perfectly no leak after couple of days, will buy againold cartridge seized up real good and wasn't coming out, i was able to use the white adapter came with the new cartridge to loosen up the old one and take it out after a few minutes. Trick is to force the old cartridge back and forward and repeat (don't expect old cartridge to move very much right the way), it will eventually loosen enough you can pull it out

New cartridge is easy to install once the old one is out and it did fix my leaky shower. The hardest part is removing the old cartridge if you don't have a removal tool. But you can make a handle from a piece of wood with a hole drilled through it. Attach the wood with the screw holding the knob to give you more leverage. Pulling with a firm force, it eventually broke free for me.

This cartridge is an OEM replacement part for Moen faucets. It come with simple instructions as well as the needed lubricant. I recommend a cartridge puller to remove the old cartridge. Sometimes they come out easily, other times they are a bear if you don't have a puller. Installation is easy with the exception of the retaining pin. This can be a pain to get seated especially if the old one was a slightly different style (flat vs round).

Product was exactly as described and worked well; however, the tube of grease included with the cartridge was empty when I opened the packaging. It appears it somehow leaked out of the tube.

Really good for OEM part. Removal was bit hard, had to use cartridge removal tool. But installation was as easy as eating a piece of cake. Solved my problem as well.

This was the part I needed and it was a genuine part for 2/3 the cost of what I could find elsewhere. Note that mine did come with a little packet of silicone grease so you probably don't need to buy that separately. Some tips:If you go watch the moen video for this replacement, they won't mention taken the large handle face-plate off the wall. I had to do this in order to be able to put the safety clip in and out. Just cut the caulk with a utility knife and tap the seam a hammer and flat-head screwdriver to get it off.I had a really hard time pulling the old one out out with pliers, but I eventually had success after lightly tapping the stem with a hammer a few times. Pushing the old cartridge back into the wall a little helped loosen it up and I eventually pulled it out. Some other users noted the hex bit you need to get the handle off. Make sure you have the right size. I had a basic allen wrench set that didn't have the right fit, but I had luckily bought a screwdriver set off plumbingsupplyandmore a few years ago that did have it.One other note for the moen video watchers - after you put the new cartridge in, they'll say to turn it back to the off position and show a rotation to the left. I had to turn mine 180 degrees right instead. Going left inverted my handle. Not a big deal to fix afterward - just annoying.

Tried others that claimed they would fit. Big mistake. Go with the OEM replacement and you'll be happy! Definitely worth the few extra dollars.
