“These seem to be engineered to fail. I have two baths in a pretty new house, and both cartridges have been slowly failing. All of my sink faucet cartridges are also slowly failing, also Moen. I have fairly soft, uncontaminated source water and a pretty new and clean water heater. I'm unsure of why Moen cannot design a cartridge that works well after a few years in a normal house, other than that they like putting all of our faucets essentially on a "subscription" service. Then there's the expense of potentially hiring a plumber. I was curious, so I requested a quote from local plumbers and they would have charged about $300 to replace a single bath faucet cartridge. I'm sure a second cartridge would have only added another $100 or so...I just bought an aftermarket cartridge removal tool (glad I did, these things get pretty stuck in there), some extra plumber's grease, extra retainer clips (I had a feeling I might drop mine behind the wall, but I didn't, yay!), and this replacement cartridge, and it cost a small fraction of what I would have paid a plumber.I guess I should be happy, right? My faucet knob now turns silky-smooth. However, I'm writing this review about 2 months after I installed the cartridge, and it's already gained a tiny bit of turning friction. I can guarantee it will be back to leaking within a few years. When my other bath's cartridge starts sticking a bit more severely, I think I'll try a cheap aftermarket cartridge. Who knows if it'll work very well, but if I have to buy these things every few years, saving 75% of the cost will add up pretty quickly.”
“This is the exact replacement for a Moen Sensi Temperature water valve that fits most one handle control models. The best recommendation I have is buy the special tool to pull it out and soak cartridge with a good penetrate to help loosen it up before attempting. Even with the tool removal can be difficult depending on how jammed up the seals get and how hard your water is too. I used a WD40 rust formula that worked pretty good to help break it loose. Without the tool you'll be struggling to get it out unless you can rig up a leverage block with a pry bar. They give you 2 small packs of slippery lube to coat the valve before installing, clean up the body with some rolled up emery cloth and water to help the valve to seat better, the bore should be prelubed as well and line up the HC at top and finish seating assembly with a deep socket and mallet over the stem, then reinstall the lock pin into vale slot. Works perfectly and very easy movement with no leaks!”
“Price is less than local home improvement store. Works great. Used this to replace other after market valve that I had just installed and had started leaking. I would suggest this one so that you don't have to go thru what I did.”
“Seemed like the right part but I returned it because a plumber determined the issue was at the water filter system not in the "guts " of my shower. So I returned this. It's genuine moen part and expensive compared to other "replacement" parts. I've heard good and bad about the after market parts.”
“I bought the recommended extractor to pull the core. After watching some of the YouTube videos. the extra cost for the extractor was well worth the cost. The old core was at a point of barely turning to control water flow. Extracting the old core I found the rubber O Ring broken which made the extraction difficult, Installing the new core unit with LOTS of the grease provided the new core slid right in on the second attempt. I cannot emphasize enough the use of grease liberally.”
“Ordered this product to replace a leaky one. Read a bunch of reviews and decided to go with the Moen brand instead of a knock-off one. Also read some of the horror stories about needing the extraction tool to get the old cartridge out. I personally experienced no issues. I took a chance on ordering this (and the tool) before removing the old cartridge, but it was the correct replacement I needed. There's another model very close to this one. As usual, it came on time, and was neatly packaged in a clam-shell. I took apart the faucet hardware, removed the retaining clip, used the extraction tool (incorrectly, but it worked) and the old cartridge came out no problem. Lubed up the seals with the supplied lubricant and it slid right into place with no issue. Reassembled the faucet and now it's not leaking and works perfectly.”
“Do your reasearch to make sure this is the correct part you need. I ordered this cartridge to replace my current one that was having issue suppling hot water. This was an OEM part that exceeded results from before. It comes with a plactic tool to aid the removal of the existing cartridge. Personlly, I would recommend tossing this is the trash and get a metal removal tool, the plastic one was not enough to free the existing cartridge. Buy them together so that you arent waiting for the metal one to show up. This item also came with a small packet of seal lube so there is no need to buy seal lube.”
