“Second time I've replaced the cartridge on our Moen - we're getting about six years. I did not need the extraction tool, maybe if it was in there longer? Came out relatively easily with pliers. Their video is pretty good, but they gloss over the temperature limit piece - I ended up just removing it because it must have been set for no limit.Second issue was they tell you to turn the valve a certain way before reassembly - with the position being a notch - but there appears to be a "notch" on both sides. It's not very clear - I was 180 degrees wrong, so I had to shut water back off and flip it.Significantly cheaper here than at the big box store.”
“Works well. It stopped my leaking shower after I installed it. Installation can be very challenging. I wasted money on a knock off version that still had the shower leaking after installing. Then I bought this one and it worked. It's a bit pricey, thus the 4 star rating.”
“We bought a replacement value and it worked. The removal tool did not help as the vale stem was broken off after 20 years. There are lots of videos about drilling out the cartridge and threading it to pull it out. I found that using a dremel tool to cut off the end tabs, shown in pic 2, allows some pliers to rotate the cartridge. This eventually allowed the cartridge to be pulled out half way. The rubber seals got stuck in the pipe, pic 5, so removing the cartridge the second half took a lot of constant pressure, while holding the pipes in the wall. You are sort of ripping the rubber seals apart as you pull it all the way out.We used the extraction tool to install the new cartridge 9/10 of the way in. I used a socket and extender to push on with my chest while holding the pipes to push it in the final bit. It all works now so hopefully its not something that will be a problem for another 10y - 20 years.”
“I bought a cheaper off brand kit with a puller and the new cassette leaked worse than the original it was replacing. This Moen cassette works perfectly.”
