“I'm rating this 3 stars. The product works well, and can be installed by a homeowner. The issue I have with it is the cost. You can buy a complete the complete shower head, tap and faucet for around $130CDN. This replacement cartridge is 1/2 the cost of the complete assembly. I have 2 showers that use this same cartridge. One that I replaced with an original Moen 1222 cartridge about 6 years ago. It's starting to get harder to rotate, so my guess is that I'll have to replace it soon. The one I just replaced a week ago lasted about a decade. So cost-wise it looks like we'll be replacing these every 6 to 10 years on each shower. Not sure if that's the lifespan that Moen assumes we'll get out of it??? But I'd prefer it to last longer.”
“These seem to be engineered to fail. I have two baths in a pretty new house, and both cartridges have been slowly failing. All of my sink faucet cartridges are also slowly failing, also Moen. I have fairly soft, uncontaminated source water and a pretty new and clean water heater. I'm unsure of why Moen cannot design a cartridge that works well after a few years in a normal house, other than that they like putting all of our faucets essentially on a "subscription" service. Then there's the expense of potentially hiring a plumber. I was curious, so I requested a quote from local plumbers and they would have charged about $300 to replace a single bath faucet cartridge. I'm sure a second cartridge would have only added another $100 or so...I just bought an aftermarket cartridge removal tool (glad I did, these things get pretty stuck in there), some extra plumber's grease, extra retainer clips (I had a feeling I might drop mine behind the wall, but I didn't, yay!), and this replacement cartridge, and it cost a small fraction of what I would have paid a plumber.I guess I should be happy, right? My faucet knob now turns silky-smooth. However, I'm writing this review about 2 months after I installed the cartridge, and it's already gained a tiny bit of turning friction. I can guarantee it will be back to leaking within a few years. When my other bath's cartridge starts sticking a bit more severely, I think I'll try a cheap aftermarket cartridge. Who knows if it'll work very well, but if I have to buy these things every few years, saving 75% of the cost will add up pretty quickly.”
“My shower handle stuck one day, after removing all the trim I couldn't turn the stem it was seized up. I ordered this replacement part plus a stem puller plus valve grease. Took 45 min to pull out old one, new one took 30 seconds to put in. It's been a couple of weeks and still turns super easy and no drips.”

“Bought this to replace a 20 yr old cartridge. Removing the old one was difficult even with a puller as it only goes so far before it bottoms out.Once that happened, I just grabbed the handle and pulled hard while wiggling the cartridge side to side. Don't turn it too much or you risk breaking the cartridge inside the valve and that's not fun. Luckily mine came out in one piece minus the two rubber tabs on the side of the cartridge. They both tore and one piece was still inside the valve body. I'm quite certain those rubber parts are the source of the difficult removal.Installation was a tad difficult too. It appears the 1222 cartridge today is ever so slightly longer which meant I had to persuade the retaining clip to go back in fully. I used pliers to push the bottom of the clip until it fell into the slot. I read others had to either bevel the edge of new cartridge or shave down the clip which I'm glad I didn't have to do.Otherwise the new cartridge works well! It doesn't leak and it solved my low flow issue. I did notice the handle now turns very easily. Almost too easily. Maybe I used too much grease? I don't see a way to adjust the handle tension. Not really a huge concern I'm sure it will get better over time as the lubricant washes off and things gunk up.”
