“Removing the old cartridge is the most difficult part of replacement. You will likely need to use a special tool to remove the old cartridge -- at least both of the ones I replaced were firmly stuck in the faucet. I got the tool from a local hardware store, but they are also available on plumbingsupplyandmore. I highly recommend watching any of the Youtube videos on replacing this cartridge, as well as the one on the Moen web site, before attempting this yourself. Be sure to use the included lubricant on the new cartridge. Or if you don't feel comfortable with this replacement after watching the videos, just call a plumber.”
“Price is less than local home improvement store. Works great. Used this to replace other after market valve that I had just installed and had started leaking. I would suggest this one so that you don't have to go thru what I did.”
“My shower's flow got very weak, and, eventually, lost the hot water. Replaced it with a new one, and it took care of all issues. The old one had a lot of hard water build up, which was the problem, and didn't come out, easily. I used a heat gun to coax it out, and had the proper Moen tool, which I highly recommend.”
“Followed the instructions and was able to remove and install in 30 min. Did not require using my removal tool. Just used channel lock pliers with a slight 45 degree twist. No leaks.”
“Sorry certified plumbers, I did this myself with use of the Moen 1222 One-Handle Posi-Temp Faucet Cartridge Replacement. Watch the on-line videos on how to do this yourself and BOOM, saved 500 bucks.”
