“I ordered this pump as my old boiler pump was about 9 years old. I was hearing a slight noise from the old pump during operation. And I thought it possibly could be failing as the motor was extremely hot to the touch. I had purged all three zones on the boiler to remove any air in the system. I was getting some banging upstairs on my baseboard heating at night. I thought there may be air going through the pump and in the system so I changed the Hy-Vent air purge. It was also about 9 years old and thought it may have failed also. The old Hy-Vent was very mucky and dirty when I opened it up. It had definitely failed because after installing the new one it was hissing air out as I refilled the system and turned it on. What I discovered was after replacing the old pump with the new it made the same noise as the old pump. And off the bat it got just as hot as the old pump. I took the old pump apart to find it was a bit crusty inside and some build up but nothing that bad. Nothing a soak in white vinegar wouldn't remove. The impeller was in pretty good shape too. So in the end I probably did not have to change the old pump. I did for peace of mind. At least I have a back up now or a parts pump. It was not difficult to change. Powered boiler off at electrical box. Two wires. No ground wire was there. Four bolts. Two new gaskets. The hardest thing was draining the boiler because it took a while. It did leak from one of the bottom bolts after refilling the boiler but I tightened a few turns and dripping stopped. One thing I did notice. After I installed the new pump I remembered seeing the white, plastic IFC check valve was inside the bottom side of the new pump. When I looked at the old pump I noticed it was not there. So I called the company and spoke to a nice woman who informed me that if it wasn't on the old pump I really should remove it from the new pump. That I probably have a check valve already somewhere on my boiler. So unfortunately I had to remove the pump I just installed and remove the IFC with needle nose pliers. It was in there pretty good. Had to pull it 4 or 5 times until it popped out.”
“Replaced a chattering old pump with this one on my baseboard hot water system and it was a snap. Just remember to purge purge purge the air out when you're done by hooking up a drain hose and opening the pressure reducer handle to full line pressure until all the gurgling stops. Might take 10 minutes. Otherwise you'll have a noisy pump.”
“These circulators have been around forever. Their green their ugly but they do their job and are quiet. I have 6 in my heating system that go to hot water radiators. they work and look great”
