The story of a short life lived to the full in Edwardian England by an upper class teenager in the first half of the Great War.Alexander Scrimgeour was a midshipman in the Ryal navy intent on mastering his chosen profession. Serving on ships enforcing the blockade of Germny, his young life sadly ended aged 19 years when his ship the battlecruiser Invincible failed to live up to her name and was sunk with the loss of 1025 lives. Only 6 survived. This is a fascinating account taken from journals and letters of upper middle class life and of the state of Britain's Navy in the opening years of the Great War portryed by an articulate young man who does not supress his opinions.
