“I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Welbourn has written many books about railway routes lost through Beeching cuts and otherwise in the era when road transport was seen as the future. Now that that policy has been seen as a false hope we can regret the losses and ask "Is there any hope of recovery?" Wellbourn discusses such hopes in quite a few examples, but the costs and practical difficulties are very great. But for those of us old enough to remember the railways in their former glory, this book is both very informative and a great nostalgia-fest!”
