“I teach people to embrace the use of Six Sigma to solve issues that have not been fixed by other means. Very often I am handed data and asked to analyze it. The very first thing I do is to organize it so QIMarcros or Minitab can go to work. Then I plot the data to look for common cause vs special cause variation; and look for outliers that need explanation. Next, I run Graphical Summary in Minitab. But now I can run Descriptive Stats-Normality in QIMacros to give me the same analysis, at a fraction of the cost of Minitab. I can learn a lot about the data from this analysis: histogram shape, normality, and statistical characteristics: all very useful before moving forward with solving an issue.”
