About Riverside:

The Riverside Garden Centre has been established since 1997 and is owned and run by Russell and Jo Jeffery who take a very hands-on approach to every aspect of the business. They are always on hand to help and give advice.

“Excellent slower burning product that produces a consistant burn tempetature and this allows me to smoke and bbq throughout the winter months. If you set up your coals in the 'fuse' style, cooking brisket for 12 hrs or beef ribs for 7hrs is easy and produces excellent results for melt in the mouth winter unctiousness! Tried and tested and is a dependable product that I can recommend and I will continue to purchase.”

“Filled up a Weber chimney starter and used a Weber lighter cube. After about 10 minutes when the cube had gone out all the briquettes had done was get slightly warm. None had lit. Never had that before with any other briquettes.”

Hi Edward, These are high-performance briquettes which are compacted at a high level which makes them long-lasting. You would need 2-3 firelighters to ensure these are lit to full potential. Once they are lit you'll find they will last a long time. Thanks and good luck for next time.

“Quick to light and good burn time, used on the WSM very easy to maintain a consistent temperature. Comparable to Webers own brand at a slightly more attractive price point.”

“I've used these on a couple of smokes now and am very impressed, they do seem to take slightly longer than the Weber briquettes to take but using the minion method I had a 5 hour smoke going with still plenty left using the 47cm WSM. It was also massively easy to maintain a constant temp with only minimal vent tweaking needed.”

“I used just over half a bag of these on my 18.5” WSM to cook a whole brisket and pork butt. Overall impressions are very positive indeed - a clean burn and using the minion method, they provided me with a reliable overnight cook with a steady temperature (I’ve only tried them low and slow thus far) and provided me with great results. The briquettes were all evenly formed thus satisfying the most serious OCD briquette -stack-builders out there. Would definitely buy again from Riverside.”

“1st time I used these was at a demo at Riverside and I struggled to find any negatives, there aren’t any. So so similar to my experience with our competition charcoal of choice... Easy to light, consistent and long burning with no nasty niffs Another quality coal fit for both hot n fast and low n slow, bonus feature over our normal brand #BiggerBag Will use these again for sure”

“I tried these briquettes on the recommendation of the staff at Riverside. I hadn't heard of this brand before but as a keen barbecue fan am always looking to try something new so thought I would give them a go instead of my usual Heat Beads. The briquettes were quite small but nevertheless packed a real punch! I used 3/4 of a chimney starter as I wanted to get to a roasting temp of 180-200 degrees C, and once the charcoal was lit (as easy to light as Weber fuel and actually easier than Heat Beads using 2 Weber firelighters) the temperature remained stable and held at a constant 200 degrees for a few hours. I found the charcoal to be odourless, which is obviously good, and once the coals were ready to be used actually glowed red hot and almost looked see-through! When I removed the lid to put my food into the kettle or to temperature check as you would expect some of the heat left the barbecue, but I found that once I put the lid back onto the kettle the temperature shot back up to where I wanted it very quickly! When my food was ready (after about two and a half hours) the charcoal was still going strong and I predict I would have got a couple more hours out of it had I needed to. Instead I closed the vents to shut it down. I was pleasantly surprised that an unknown brand could perform so well and I would have no hesitation on using them again. Thank you to the knowledgeable Riverside staff who advised me to try them!”
