Unlike some other older wheel designs, these wheels are manufactured with symmetrical urethane, so if your urethane is uneven this would be due to riding your wheels on one side for a prolonged amount of time without swapping the wheels over. We would suggest swapping your wheels over to the other side to start wearing them down evenly.
It is best to always rotate your wheels from time to time to ensure even wear.
As for the bearings, they can deteriorate for any number of reasons but tend not to do so quickly unless they are subject to heavy use.
